Oct 2nd: Alexander Bagnall – The Deepdene Trail

Welcome back & subs night

The Deepdene Trail is an amazing landscape full of history, nature and hidden treasures. The trail is managed by Mole Valley District Council. Alexander will be telling us about the history and the background of the trail as well as the ongoing work on the Deepdene Gardens.

 

Oct 16th: Lee Meredith – Leonardslee Gardens

Lee will be sharing with us the tasks, trials and tribulations involved in the re-opening of these beautiful gardens.

Oct 30th: Ian Clemens – Buckets of Colour

Ian will be advising us how to successfully grow flowers, fruit and vegetables in pots or containers. Ian is a qualified vegetable judge and a very successful competitor in local shows. He also specialises in Dahlias and Chrysanthemums.

 

Nov 13th:  Stuart Card – The Ecology, Conservation and Monitoring of Barn Owls

Stuart will talk to us about the work that goes on to preserve our Barn Owl population, informing us of the factors affecting their decline in numbers and how we can all help. Stuart is a member of the Parks and Countryside department for Horsham District Council.

 

Nov 27th: Sue Watts – Christmas Decorations

Following a very successful evening with a Christmas gift- wrapping presentation a few years ago we have booked Sue again for the festive season.

Sue will inform us of and demonstrate some of her ideas for Christmas home and garden decorations.

Dec 11th:  Christmas Social – Manor Theatre Group

After last year’s very enjoyable performance and by popular demand we have again booked this very entertaining group. We have been assured the performance will be featuring different entertainment and jokes from last year!

Jan 8th 2018: A.G.M. and Review of the Year

Our new format of a shortened A.G.M.! This will be followed by a review of the year’s outings/shows then a presentation on next year’s proposed coach trip.

Hopefully Lynda Cheeseman will also prepare us another table quiz.

Jan 22nd: Alan Sargent – Confessions of a Gardener

Alan has been in the gardening business for most of his life and has landscaped gardens for the rich and famous. He has also been on the R.H.S. Committee for Chelsea and Hampton Court. A humorous evening ahead!

 

Feb 5th: Penny Green – The Knepp Castle Rewilding Project.

Knepp castle is a 3500 acre estate South of Horsham. Once intensively farmed the land has been devoted to a pioneering rewilding project, using grazing animals as the drivers of habitat creation. The project has seen a vast increase in wildlife. Penny will be telling us all about the project and how it all started.

 

Feb 19th: Paul Dalby & Marion Neden- Go For A Show

Paul and Marion will jointly present this useful introduction for showing produce, flowers and domestic items. Hopefully our new members will be inspired to try their hand at exhibiting and many of our regular competitors will learn a few new tips.

Mar 5th: Mark Saunders – 25 Top Garden Tips

A selection of top gardening tips from the Head Gardener at Fittleworth House.

Mark will also be showing us colourful slides and exhibits.

 

Mar 19th: Lesley Chamberlin The National Garden Scheme

Lesley will be giving a talk with slides all about the National Garden Scheme. How different local gardens are chosen for inclusion in the scheme, some of which we have been to on our evening visits with the society.
